Bills, resolutions, and related General Assembly records, 1819-1994.

ArchivalResource

Bills, resolutions, and related General Assembly records, 1819-1994.

Records contain original House and Senate bills; resolutions; and amendments arranged numerically by bill or resolution number within each biennium. Not all introduced bills are included (pre-1873) because a resolution (1852) permitted members to remove any unpassed bills from the files. Committee reports, recommendations, and roll call votes are filed with bills or resolutions (ca. 1929-). Certified bill and resolution copies are filed with originals (1965-). A miscellaneous file includes committee (including subcommittee and joint committee) and commission debate transcripts, minutes, reports, correspondence; House and Senate rules; communications between the two chambers; statistics, publications, and minority reports. Other records include receipts; expense vouchers; notary public appointment lists; postage orders; photographs; forwarded resolutions from other states; legislative synopses and digests; Illinois Legislative Handbook; and newspaper clippings. Also included are gubernatorial petitions and incoming correspondence; Council of Revision messages; Secretary of State's report to the Governor; and General Assembly member mileage payment memoranda (1819-1848).
